Brief Description of Abilities: Gupta can control shadows and manipulate them into a physical form. His ability to mold the shadow are limited only by the size of the shadow. When he uses his powers, his eyes turn to a golden color.

Personality:
Gupta is a quiet, reserved man. Because he seems rather expressionless, it¡¯s difficult to tell what he¡¯s thinking. While he tends to keep to himself, he¡¯s actually quite friendly and a caring person that¡¯s quick to help others. Gupta has a soft spot for animals and children. He¡¯s also very hard working, an ethic his mother taught him when he was young.
He has a hard time trusting people. Gupta tries his hardest to keep his normal life and his life as an assassin as separate as possible. After he goes on any mission, he often spend a period of several days or weeks mourning the loss of life and questioning his choice in life. Luckily he hasn¡¯t been called on by the guild for the past two years.
History:
Gupta had a fairly normal childhood. After his parents divorced at a young age, Gupta and his mother moved to a small neighborhood. Because Gupta was a quiet boy with rather outlandish features for the predominately white neighborhood, he was often the target of bullying. With his mother working hard to support them, Gupta was often left to amuse himself during his childhood.
He developed an affinity with shadows from a young age. Often hiding in them from bullies, Gupta would close his eyes and pretend he was a part of the shadows. The boy didn¡¯t know when it stopped being pretend and when the shadows started to truly hide him. The first time he became aware, Gupta was eight. He had been leaning out his bedroom window and slipped. Gupta screamed as he began to plummet to the ground, when he just stopped. Hesitating a glance, he opened his then golden eyes to see that the shadows from a nearby tree had reached out and were physically cradling him. He sat frozen for some time before he thought to move the shadow. It took several tries and some semi hysterical pleading before the shadow finally complied and lifted him back to his bedroom.
After forcing himself to believe the incident was nothing more than a dream, Gupta began to avoid the shadows that he once found comforting. His mother already led a hard life trying to give her son the best that she could. The last thing she needed was a mutant for a child.
But the shadows had different plans. Soon they started responding to him without command. Flicking the light switch off when he was too tired to get up; rising up to brace his fall when he tripped. When the shadows caught a baseball that was aimed for his head and threw it back at the person responsible, Gupta couldn¡¯t hide from the truth any longer.
He started to experiment with his powers. He learned that they responded to his unspoken command at will as well as blunt mental commands. While a shadow could be changed into a physical form, it need to be coaxed back to it¡¯s original shape. In a rather short period of time, he thought he had his powers mastered.
While in his freshman year of college, his mother got in an accident and needed to be hospitalized. The family had lived a comfortable life, but by no means a lavish one. Even with health insurance and some help from the government, the family¡¯s meager savings were quickly eaten away.
Gupta tried his best to earn more money, dropping out of college and taking up part time jobs to help pay for expenses. A man (seemingly Turkish in origin) made him an offer. ¡®Work with me and my group, and we¡¯ll make sure all your mother¡¯s hospital bills are paid. Do what I say, and she¡¯ll never have to work another day of her life.¡¯
After a long, hard fight with his morals and value of life, Gupta¡¯s mother¡¯s health took a turn for the worse. Desperate to get her better care, a better doctor, anything; Gupta signed his life away and joined the assassin¡¯s guild. There he was taught things he never dreamed he could with his powers. He learned to fight and to kill and to obey without question. He did things that made him disgusted with himself and question his own humanity, so his mother could live.
Then his mother passed away a few months after Gupta joined the guild. Left with the debts to the guild and little else, Gupta stayed with them a few more years. He worked off his debt to the guild for what bills they did pay. Luckily, because of his age and the fact that his immediate superior kept him from any actual knowledge about the guild; Gupta was allowed to return to a normal life under the condition he never spoke of the guild; and would come back the moment he was called upon.
Gupta now works as a freelance book translator. He lives alone in his modest apartment with only his dog Rauf for company.
